July University Support Staff Employee of the Month

STARTED AT KU: 2002

CURRENT TITLE: Administrative associate senior, Office of Multicultural Affairs

WHAT THAT MEANS: Jones’ responsibilities include budget management, supervision of student staff members and oversight of reservations for the Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center.

NOTABLE: Jones has a personal commitment to environmental sustainability. She is on the KU Sustainability Board, is involved in the Lawrence community recycling effort and frequently reminds students and colleagues to recycle and conserve energy. In fact, her office nickname is “The Green Machine.”

QUOTABLE: Colleagues laud Jones for her commitment to faculty, staff and students. Jones is “a wonderful example for others at the university and within Student Success,” one colleague said.

Elise Marie Waldron

July Unclassified Employee of the Month

Elise Marie Waldron

STARTED AT KU: Waldron joined KU as a student employee in 1994 and became a member of the unclassified professional staff in 1999

CURRENT TITLE: Information specialist in research technology computing, part of the Office Research and Graduate Studies

WHAT THAT MEANS: Waldron’s primary responsibility for several years has been oversight of the Office Research and Graduate Studies’ helpdesk. Besides ensuring that the desktop support unit runs smoothly and that customers are satisfied, she has seen to it that meetings are set, purchases are made and projects are managed. Waldron has a broad knowledge of the office and is the go-to person for every function: technical, budget and project management.

NOTABLE: Several months ago, Waldron completed training and certification as a project manager and recently has assumed a new project management role for the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, with responsibilities in the areas of business processes, grants administration, tracking and other duties.

QUOTABLE: Waldron’s colleagues give her high marks for pursuing the project manager credential on her own time, and one of them said, “This is the job Elise was born to do.”
