Jimmy Gentry, professor of journalism, led a half-day workshop on understanding financial statements as part of a day-long program entitled “Covering the 2009 Financial World: New Rules and New President,” on March 23 in Seattle. The program was sponsored by the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University.
John Hudnall, journalism lecturer and Kansas Scholastic Press Association director, conducted a session on editorial writing at the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual convention March 18 to 20 in New York City. He also gave the Quill and Scroll banquet March 23 at Chase County High School in Cottonwood Falls.
Diana Carlin, professor of communication studies, presented two speeches, "Bologna 101: What it is and What it isn't," and "International Implementation Strategies: Looking Further Afield," at the Canadian Perspectives on the Bologna Process conference held March 18-20 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. The conference was attended by provincial and federal government officials and by university administrators, faculty, and students to explore the impact of Europe's higher education reform and restructuring on Canadian higher education.
Jane Tuttle, assistant vice provost for student success, gave the presentation “Using Appreciative Inquiry to Transform our Conduct Conversations with Students" at the 21st Annual Association for Student Conduct Administration Conference held Feb. 7 in Clearwater Beach, Fla.
Don Marquis, professor or philosophy, gave a talk titled “Four Perspectives on Abortion Ethics” March 18 at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
Deb Olin Unferth, assistant professor of English, has been awarded a Yaddo Residency for August. Yaddo is an artists’ community in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., founded in 1900 by financier Spencer Trask.
